PROJECT
ART CONSULTING
THE KEG STEAKHOUSE RESTAURANTS
Art Consulting and Project Management for 60+ locations
– ABOUT THE PROJECT
Working as the art consultant for The Keg Restaurants for 8 years on over 60 North American locations- including key new build projects in Toronto, Montreal, Phoenix, Denver and Dallas – was a long creative adventure in how to help revitalize a brand’s image on a budget through the selection of art. Image matters in hospitality environments – what’s on the wall sets a pace for the customer experience and gives a vibe to the room. Through the years of these many projects, the Keg was undergoing a transformation lead by visionary new management determined to reenergize the brand’s identity with a younger urban audience. Under David Aisenstat’s leadership, the Keg marked a new stylish path forward – no more grainy old photos of early settlers or farm tools (a hoe, a rake, tractor parts) stuck to a wall. The new restaurant interiors – many designed by the great hospitality designer, Elaine Thorsell – became open and vibrant. For each location, the artwork package and placement of art became a key opportunity to create a stylish buzz for these beautiful new interiors. Each project was a complete art consulting package – including project management, art ideation, art sourcing, artist commissions, art placement and install.
The use of original art and well-curated prints in a restaurant or hospitality environment matters more than the chosen art’s aesthetic. Art adds energy and personality to a room and an important sense of human community. Art can also create an emotional and memorable spark in an audience and add to what makes the hospitality brand stand out.The key for any art consulting project is to represent the brand (or person’s) values, energy and style while also finding a great piece of art at the right price. The Keg Restaurants is a smart example of a brand making creativity central to its identity.

Compelling content earns you stature, inspires trust and stokes curiosity and loyalty. But you have to think about your audience as much as yourself. Still, even the most personal stories can have universal appeal. Be relatable and be inspiring.
